Fire purifies whatever is touches.
I Peter 1: 7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
trial (dokimion – pronounced dok-im-ee-on)
a proof, a test
precious (timios – pronounced tim-ee-os)
valuable, costly, honored, esteemed, beloved, that which is approved as genuine
You are not always being punished when you go through trials. It is God’s way of refining and growing you, just as gold is refined through heat. When all the impurities are removed, what’s left is so clear that a person can see his own reflection. It is totally pure with no imperfections.
God wants to be able to see His reflection in you because all the junk has been removed by various trials that you have come through successfully. He deems the trial of faith even more important than gold, because it will stand the test of time.
Gold will eventually perish, but God does eternal things through you when you overcome trials.
The next time you go through hard times, make sure to repent of all sin so that you are sure it is a trial and not discipline. Then remember that God is in control, and He is making you into the person that He can use to do great things for Him. It takes time to get rid of junk.
After it is over, you can see how much you have grown in your faith. God wants you to understand that you can depend on Him totally and completely for every need in your life.
